An accomplished Project Manager / Business-Project Relationship Manager with seven years of direct project management experience, Derek joined RHE in November 2002, initially assisting with the development of the RHE Sunrise Framework and then with the implementation of the framework at Allianz Australia.
This project saw Derek deliver significant business process and culture change in an engagement that delivered a new industry benchmark for Sunrise applications.
Most recently, Derek has completed a 'greenfield' IT systems establishment project for Calliden, a start up in the General Insurance industry.
Strong business domain knowledge of the insurance industry in Australia, coupled with seven years of application development experience and professional project management skills are the cornerstones that underpin Derek's approach to delivering business outcomes that meet stakeholder expectations.
Previously, he was a Business Relationship Manager (BRM) with Zurich Financial Services Australia, having joined Zurich in 1999 as a specialist in large scale project management involving third party development.
In his capacity as BRM, Derek was responsible for multiple teams of cross functional staff (application development, comms and infrastructure) - internal and external, with contract management and staff development key success areas.
Derek began his career with BHP in business unit (Coke Ovens) Industrial relations and remuneration & management services divisions where he gained valuable negotiation and back office management skills in 1990.
He left in 1993 to work in England, working for Exmoscover Ltd, leading the business and administration function.
Returning to Australia in 1996, he joined Colonial in Melbourne, initially as a Business Analyst and then in 1997 through until 1999 as a Project Manager.
Derek has extensive experience in the management of technology-based projects, from business case development through project execution and close out. Although predominantly from a business background, Derek's project roles have always been associated with achieving the business outcomes from any technology-based project.
He is an active member of the Australian Institute of Project Management's NSW chapter.
